The Lincoln Southeast Knights (17-6) won their second tournament of the spring with a 7-4 win Friday night over Omaha Skutt Catholic in the Championship Game of the Curt Shockey Invitational Tournament hosted by Ralston. The Knights went 3-0 in the tournament with a 4-0 opening round win over Benson on Wednesday, a 9-0 semifinal win over Burke Friday morning and the championship win over Skutt. Friday was a long day for the Knights who left Lincoln at 6:45am for the 9:00 semifinal game in Ralston. After that game was played, the team went back to Lincoln for the remainder of the day before returning to Ralston for the 7:00pm championship game which ended at about 9:30pm.
In the semifinal against Burke, Josh Scheffert struck out thirteen in a no-hitter and hit his seventh home run of the season. Freshman Ryan McDonald added a two-run shot, his first varsity homer. In the Championship, the Knights scored all of their runs with two outs in the second inning. Scheffert contributed a two-run double to help ignite the big inning. Junior southpaw Jaydee Jurgensen struck out eleven in six innings before Jordan Kirk came on in relief to close it out for the Knights.
In other action in the tournament, named for longtime Ralston head coach Curt Shockey, Burke claimed 3rd place with a 15-10 win over Nebraska City, and Beatrice defeated Ralston 9-5 in the 5th place game.
