Rankings from Prior Weeks:  March 19  March 29  April 5  April 12  April 19  April 26

Class A Notes

To the victors go the spoils.  By defeating #1 Westside and winning the tournaments that they each played in last weekend, both Papio South and Prep jump over the Warriors in a late season move up to the top of the rankings.  Papio South gets the nod at #1 after having chased Westside for the past couple of weeks.  The Titans have a lot of players contributing, and Stephen Bougher has been dominant on the mound.  Kudos to Prep for prevailing over a very tough field in the Millard South tournament, including back-to-back wins over Millard West and Westside, both of whom threw Husker signees.  From the beginning of the season, we wondered if being out of the spotlight (compared to last year) might help the Junior Jays relax and just play good baseball.  That seems to be the case.  Lead off hitter Joe Kankovsky was money in the Don Kraft Tourney.

Southeast jumps up to #5, not so much with the Ralston tournament win -- admittedly a field that was not of the caliber as the Millard South tourney -- but because the Knights are playing very good ball right now.  Josh Scheffert is taking it to another level, and his teammates have had all season to test their own leadership skills.  Heading into the post-season, the Knights are hitting on all cylinders.

Millard South lost three games this week to higher ranked teams, two of which were very close games.  But for Southeast's surge, the Patriots would have hung on at #5.  Bryan slides two spots after a three-loss week.  Papio and GI hold on to the bottom two slots in the order.  18-8 Columbus is "in the neighborhood" but is held back for having played a soft schedule.

Class B Notes:

Our top three remain stable, as all three had productive weeks and avoided upsets.  Elkhorn continues to play a steady diet of quality Class A teams which should pay dividends come post-season time.

Skutt, Roncalli and Gretna are all playing well right now.  Skutt suffered a seven-run inning at the hands of Southeast, but hung in there and battled back from a 7-1 deficit to make a game of it before losing, 7-4, to the Knights in the Ralston Tournament Championship.  The Skyhawks have won three of their last four, and move up to the #4 spot with the Runner Up finish in the Curt Shockey tourney.

Roncalli and Gretna have each won six of their last seven with Gretna riding a four-game win streak.  The two teams started a game on March 23rd that was suspended with Gretna leading 5-1.  It would be nice to see them finish that game this week.

Pius slips three notches following a four-loss week.  Three of those were close losses to Class A teams but one was to Roncalli.  Thus, the 'Bolts move down below the Gretna-Roncalli logjam.  South Sioux and newcomer Norris round out the Top 10.  Former #10 Blair has lost four in a row.  If we're going to include a team that is three games under .500, we'll go with one that has won a game recently.  Norris gets the nod based on a 2-1 win over Class A Bergan on Saturday.
