Westside Baseball Pasta Dinner
Westside Baseball will hold its annual Pasta Dinner
fundraiser at Amato's Restaurant at 64th and Center this
Sunday, May 3rd from 1:30 to 6:00pm. All proceeds go
to fund the Westside summer Legion baseball program.
$6.00, dine in or take out. Hey, you've gotta eat
somewhere. Might as well support a fellow baseball
program!

Omaha World Herald Statistical Leaders
Attention Coaches: an earlier notice in the World
Herald indicated that the next batch of statistical leader
information would be due TODAY. Please
check for any requests for stats that you've received from Mike
Patterson to confirm the deadline date. We encourage all
coaches to submit their stats so that all deserving players are
recognized.
Tournaments:
Schedule / Location Change for Millard
South Tournament: Since both of the teams in today's
Fifth Place game (Lincoln East and Lincoln Northeast) are from
Lincoln, that game will be played today in Lincoln at Noon at Woods
Park Field. The 7th Place Game between Millard North and Omaha
Northwest will be played at Millard West at 10:30. The 3rd
Place Game at 10:30am between Millard West South and Millard West
and the 1:00 Championship Game between Westside and Creighton Prep
will be played at Millard South.
Bellevue West Tournament. Semifinals action gets started
bright and early this morning with Papio South and Bellevue East
facing off at 9:00 at Roddy, to be followed by Elkhorn vs. Bryan at
11:30. The winners play in the Championship at 2:00 at Roddy
and the losers go over to Bellevue West where they will play in the
Third Place game at the same time. Also at West, the 7th place
game gets under at 9:00 this morning between Omaha South and Omaha
North, to be followed by the 5th place game between Omaha Central
and Bellevue West.

and also had one hit and one rbi. Stephen Bougher
was 2 for 2 with one rbi. |

Elkhorn scored in each of its 6
offensive innings pounding out 15 hits and breaking
the game open in the sixth going up 9-3. Relief
pitching woes nearly allowed Bryan to tie it up
before Andrew Simpson was able to stop their rally
and pick up his second save of the season. |

Larson combined for 7 RBI's. Mike Wegner went 2 for

Tyler Splichal hit a grand slam for
the Chieftains, and Joe Witkowsky threw 6 innings
for the win. Danny Pierce returned to action
for the first time this season following labrum
surgery last fall and threw one inning in relief,
earning the save. Pierce induced two flight
ball outs and struck out one. |

Ryan Briggs threw five innings of one-hit

scoreless sixth and seventh inning as the Junior
Bluejays won the Don Kraft Invitational.
Williams took his first loss of the year.

doubles by Jake Thompson, Bryce Bostwick and Alex

top of the fifth inning. Nate Gloria had two hits
and a RBI for Norris, while Beranek had two hits for
Fremont Bergan. |

Darrin Effle earned the win in his
second start of the season after recovering from
lung surgery, allowing no earned runs and striking
out five. Senior Jim Lodes was 3-for-4 on his
birthday, also Senior Day, with one run and 1 RBI.
Hahn and Krumweide each drove in a run for Bergan.

6-0 in the top of the first, the Spartans rallied
with nine runs in the bottom of the first,
highlighted by a two run home run by Alex Lux, and a
bases loaded clearing double by Tim Dornbos. East
scored three more inteh second on a two run double
by Dornbos. Back to Back doubles by Wil Hinze and
Tony Suarez plated a single tally in the third. A
two out single by Jacob Thompson in fourth tallied
two more runs to start the four run fouth inning.
The game ended with back to back to back doubles in
the fifth by Michael Moss, Tim Dornbos and Bryce
Bostwick. |

Scheffert Heating Up. Although he hasn't
been seeing many pitches to hit, Lincoln Southeast's
Josh Scheffert is starting to assert himself.
The Nebraska recruit threw a no-hitter with thirteen
strikeouts and hit his seventh homerun of the season
yesterday against Burke in the Curt Shockey
Invitational, which was won by the Knights. |

Skutt shortstop Zach Mendlik attempts
a diving catch on a ball ripped through the middle
by Southeast's Josh Scheffert in the Championship
Game of the Curt Shockey Invitational at Orval Smith
Field in Ralston Friday night. The ball went
into the gap in left center for a two-run double,
part of the Knights' seven-run second inning.
Corey Stringer had a solo homer for the SkyHawks,
and Brett Swain doubled and tripled for Skutt.
